Thorbjørn Jagland discusses advance of LGBT rights

On 15 June, ILGA-Europe met with the Secretary General of the Council of Europe, Thorbjørn Jagland to discuss follow up to the adoption of the Committee of Ministers Recommendation and resolution of the Parliamentary Assembly earlier this spring.
In their meeting with Mr. Jagland, ILGA-Europe representatives stressed the importance of having mechanisms and resources within the Council of Europe to ensure effective implementation of the Recommendation on measures to combat discrimination on grounds of sexual orientation or gender identity.
The Recommendation is the world’s first intergovernmental agreement codifying the application of human rights standards to LGBT people.
