More than 5,000 people are expected to rally today at the 9th. Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Trans Pride Parade in Lima.

LGBT rights in Peru are moving forward, say organizers. For first time in Peru's history an openly gay man is running for Mayor in a district of Lima.

The Lima Pride Parade is organized by about 15 organizations of gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender activists grouped in the Colectivo del Orgullo [Pride Collective] and led by the Homosexual Movement of Lima - MHOL.

One of the organizers, Jorge Chavez-Reyes (MOHL) confirmed via telephone that the Lima Pride also involves some 30 supporting organizations, including human rights NGOs such as Amnesty International, and political parties as left-center Fuerza Social [Social Force] and the Green Party, among others.
