The television broadcasters MTV and The CW have been praised for their portrayal of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) people.
The Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation‘s (GLAAD) fourth annual network responsibility index indicates that 42 per cent of MTV’s original programming during primetime hours contained “LGBT-inclusive images”. The cable network became the first broadcaster to receive an “excellent” grade from GLAAD.
Several other cable networks also received strong ratings from GLAAD for their inclusion of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender representations: ABC Family, HBO, Lifetime, Showtime andTNT.
CBS was rated as “failing”. GLAAD said that CBS “consistently failed to deliver” on its promise to be more inclusive.
