California Bans 'Reparative Therapy’

California Governor Jerry Brown signed a law, on Saturday, banning 'reparative' or 'ex-gay' therapy. that is used to change the sexual orientation of LGBT children and teens, reports the Daily Mail.

Gov. Brown said in a statement: "This bill bans non-scientific ‘therapies’ that have driven young people to depression and suicide. These practices have no basis in science or medicine and they will now be relegated to the dustbin of quackery.”

The Human Rights Council (HRC) said it had collected nearly 50,000 signatures on a petition calling for Gov. Brown to sign the bill.

Republican opponents of the law claimed that it violates the rights of parents to make choices for their children.
